Preparation Steps
- Cook the macaroni based on package instructions; drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add milk and bring to near boiling. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until mixture thickens. Gradually whisk in heavy cream, salt, pepper, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Reduce heat to low and stir for 5 minutes.
- In a food processor, shred gouda and cheddar cheeses. Add to sauce, stirring until fully melted and combined.
- Add cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, stirring to coat evenly. Transfer mixture to a baking dish.
- In the same food processor, process bread slices into fine crumbs, then combine with melted butter. Sprinkle bread crumbs over the mac and cheese. Top evenly with crumbled bacon.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly. Serve warm.
Notes
Feel free to add extra herbs or spices for more flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
