  • 0.5 cups buttermilk
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.33 cups granulated sugar for coating

Preparation Steps
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F. Meanwhile, prepare the dough.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and melted butter. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and lightly knead. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  5. Cut into shapes using a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter with a smaller center cutout.
  6. Carefully place donuts in hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove donuts from oil and drain on paper towels. Coat with sugar while warm.
