  • 12 pieces string cheese sticks cut in half
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.75 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 0.75 cup plain panko bread crumbs
  • 1.5 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Add the eggs and milk to a small mixing bowl. Beat until completely combined. Set aside.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour and cornstarch to a shallow bowl. Whisk to combine. Set aside.
  3. Combine bread crumbs, panko crumbs, Italian seasoning, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika in another shallow bowl. Whisk to mix.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large saucepan to 350°F over medium-high heat.
  5. Dredge halved cheese sticks in egg mixture, then coat in flour mixture, then dip back in egg, and finally coat with bread crumb mixture.
  6. Carefully place coated cheese sticks into hot oil using tongs. Fry for 30 seconds to 1 minute until golden brown, turning as needed.
  7. Remove cheese sticks from oil and place on paper towels to drain. Serve hot with marinara or preferred dipping sauce.
