Main Ingredients
  • 6 cups cube stale bread (french, challah, brioche, sliced)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1.5 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 0.5 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Grease an 8×8-inch casserole dish and set aside.
  2. Cut bread into 1-inch chunks and spread evenly in the bottom of the casserole dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread, ensuring all bread is soaked.
  4. Let the bread sit for 20-25 minutes to absorb the custard.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake the pudding for 50-55 minutes until golden and set.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare vanilla sauce by melting butter in a saucepan, then adding sugar, cream, and vanilla. Cook over low heat until thickened.
  7. Serve the warm bread pudding with vanilla sauce drizzled on top.
